Benefits of Same-day Crowns

Of all the incredible tools we have at our disposal for preserving and improving your dental health, the dental crown ranks at the top of our list. Now, this incredible solution for protecting, restoring, and strengthening your teeth is even more beneficial thanks to same-day CEREC technology.

At Peninsula Dental Excellence, we strive to offer our clients the latest advancements in dentistry so that we can take care of their dental health efficiently and expertly. Under the direction of Drs. Jeff Yoshihara and Colin Au, our state-of-the-art practice offers the most advanced technologies available and there’s no better example of that than our ability to provide same-day crowns thanks to CEREC.

A closer look at CEREC technology

It used to be that to provide you with a crown, we had to take an impression of your tooth and then send it off to an outside lab for custom manufacture. This meant that you had to visit our office at least twice to get a crown.

While we love seeing our patients, we understand that your life is busy, which is why we offer CEREC, which stands for chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramic. This mouthful of a name describes a process in which we’re able to take an impression of your tooth and manufacture the crown right here at our offices for same-day results.

To accomplish this, CEREC relies on computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM). First, we take an impression of your tooth and then our specialized CAD software creates the design of your crown. The software then sends this information along to our in-house milling unit, which uses the CAD piece of the puzzle to manufacture your crown.

The many advantages of CEREC same-day crowns

The biggest benefit of our same-day crowns is exactly that — we can design and manufacture your crown in just one visit.

If you’re worried about the quality of your crown, rest assured that we use the same materials that an outside lab would use, which include ceramics, porcelain, and metal.

With CEREC same-day crowns, we also don’t need to create a temporary restoration, which aren’t as strong as your permanent crown and they don’t protect your tooth from potential root canal infections or other problems.

Instead, we can fully restore and protect your tooth during the same visit in which we remedy the underlying problem that required the crown in the first place.

Finally, because we’re manufacturing your crown with our own milling unit, we can make any necessary adjustments to ensure that your crown fits comfortably and looks great.
