How Do Same-Day Crowns Work?

How Do Same-Day Crowns Work?

From communicating with friends in an instant to dinner in minutes, we’ve grown accustomed to having our needs met and problems solved far more quickly these days. In the world of dental health, we’ve also benefited from advanced technologies that allow us to accomplish more in less time, including providing you with dental crowns in just one visit.

At Peninsula Dental Excellence, Drs. Jeff Yoshihara, Colin Au, and the rest of our skilled dental team understand that your time is valuable, which is why we offer the latest dental technologies, including CEREC same-day dental crowns.

Here’s a look at how we’re able to help you continue to smile from ear to ear with CEREC dental crowns.

What CEREC can accomplish

CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic and the goal of this technology is to eliminate the time between preparing your tooth for a crown, taking an impression, and then waiting for the crown to be manufactured off-site.

With CEREC, we rely on computer-aided design and manufacture of your dental crown, which all takes place in our office, allowing us to provide you with your cap in just one visit.

A CEREC visit

If you need a dental crown, our first step is to prepare your tooth. In some cases, you may need a crown because of heavy dental work or perhaps you need to cap a badly discolored or misshapen tooth.

Whatever your reason, we need to remove some enamel to make room for the cap. Once we finish, we use computer technology to create an impression of your tooth and input the desired color so that the crown fits in seamlessly with your surrounding teeth. We then send all of this data along to our onsite milling unit.

When the unit receives the information, it gets to work to manufacture your crown using high-quality ceramic materials.

After the mill has completed your crown, we bond it into place and then we make any necessary adjustments to ensure that your bite is comfortable.

At this point, you’re free to leave with your smile fully intact.

The same quality with CEREC

If you’re worried that CEREC same-day crowns aren’t as good as those that are manufactured elsewhere, think again. These same-day crowns provide you with the same durability and aesthetic appeal as traditional crowns thanks to the materials we use, namely ceramic.

Ceramic excels in both form and function as it mimics the natural coloring of teeth and provides the strength you need for chewing. If you take care of your crown properly, it can last 10-15 years, or more.
